Allegan County is situated on Lake Michigan coasts of southern Michigan. The area of Allegan County is about 1,833 square miles. The county was set up in 1835 from part of Barry County and unorganized territory, and it is populated today by 121 thousand residents. Allegan is the county seat of Allegan County. The county is named after Schoolcraft pseudo-Native American name.
